Peritia Prep is a developing microschool built on the belief that education should be intentional, rigorous, and deeply student-centered. We aim to create a learning environment where students are known personally, challenged academically, and encouraged to grow with confidence, curiosity, and independence.
Our approach blends strong academic foundations with critical thinking, problem solving, and meaningful engagement. Rather than focusing solely on memorization or standardized performance, we prioritize true understanding, intellectual curiosity, and the development of lifelong learning skills.
At Peritia Prep, we believe students thrive in smaller learning communities where instruction can be personalized to their strengths, needs, and goals. We value:
- Academic excellence grounded in deep understanding
- Individualized support and meaningful relationships
- Curiosity-driven learning and critical thinking
- Confidence through challenge and growth
- Structure, accountability, and character development
Our programs are designed to help students become capable, thoughtful learners who are prepared not only for academic success, but also for the responsibility and independence that lifelong learning requires.
The name Peritia reflects our commitment to the pursuit of knowledge, skill, and mastery. We encourage students to move beyond passive learning and toward genuine competence and confidence.
About the Founder
I’m Jen Wendling, the founder of Peritia Prep. I am a career-long software engineer turned homeschool parent turned educator. In 2020, amidst a global pandemic, I left the technology space to pursue further education (aka finish the Bachelor’s degree I started 20 years before). I was homeschooling my own son, who was in kindergarten at the time.
I graduated from the University of North Texas in May of 2023, while still homeschooling my son, now in 2nd grade. I loved teaching and coming up with clever ways to provide knowledge. I loved sourcing new materials, going back and studying various pedagogies, understanding the Greek connection to math, and so on. In fact, I didn’t homeschool for any of the traditional reasons – I did it because I genuinely loved teaching and learning how to adapt teaching to various levels, using different curricula and strategies.
In July of 2025 (yep, still homeschooling, and still obsessed with teaching), I made the decision to fully move into the education field by joining an Alternative Certification Program (the pathway for college graduates who did not major in Education). My primary Content Area is “Math 4-8”, and while I intend to also become certified in other content areas and grade levels, I am leaning into “Middle Math” for the time being.
As a lifelong studier/touter of Montessori and classical education, one of my dreams has been to open a small school that prioritizes child-led development above all else. No standardized testing, no state demands, no corruption, no meaningless “zero tolerance bullying” policies (seriously… bullying will never be tolerated here). Just a passionate teacher who cares about making education safer and more accessible for families who need an affordable, alternative approach that will never sacrifice quality for time.
